The Nutley Raider Boy’s Cross Country team earned their first win of the season defeating The Columbia Cougars 17-38. However, the Raiders were not able to overcome the tight pack of Bloomfield Bengals and fell to the Bengals, 22-34. Competing in their third race in six days and under less than ideal conditions, most Raider harriers turned in slightly slower times than their previous races. Their record in the SEC American division now stands at 1-4. Next up for the Raiders will be week three of the SEC Duals, in which the Raiders will race against MKA and Millburn.
The Raiders were led by Jimmy Quinn who was the overall winner of the race, clocking a 17:25. He ran with a comfortable lead for most of the race. Vinny “Sauce” Marinaro clocked the second fastest time for the Raiders at 18:42. The number three through five runners ran in a tight group with Nick Duca(19:40), Kevin Zhang(19:50) and Sean Bernardo(20:03). At the post meet press conference sponsored by the Turtle Back Zoo, Kevin Zhang stated, “It was hot and they ran out of toilet paper. It’s a good thing that Brother Lamar came and saved us.” Phil Amiths(20:57) and Abhishek Dixit(21:02) rounded out the top seven for the Raiders. In the freshman 2-mile race, Anish Kumar turned in a solid time of 13:45 which was 13 seconds faster than last week.
