Raiders News · Lohf and the 4 x 400 Qualify for Group Three Championships

Sophomore Ava Tucker(right) just handed the baton off to fellow sophomore Anna Contini(Left) for the anchor leg of the 4 x 400 relay at the NJSIAA State Sectional Championships meet. The Girls wound up in 2nd place and qualified for the Group Three Championships.

The Nutley Raider Track and Field Teams made the harrowing trip down to Middletown North High School on Memorial Day Weekend to compete in the NJSIAA North 2 Group 3 State Sectional Championships.  The Raiders finished in the top ten on the Girls side with 20 team points. On the first day, the Raiders scored half of the 20 points by having senior Danielle Lohf tossing the spear out to 114-1 and claiming 2nd place.  Later in the meet, sophomore sprinter Anna Contini raced to a PR 59.29 in the 400 meters and was able to grab the 5th place medal.  Contini also qualified for the finals in the 100 meter dash, however finished in 8th place at 12.88 and out of the scoring.  Mia Geraghty(13.32) and Kate Contini(13.62) raced to PRs int he 100 meter dash.  Ava Tucker ran a new 400 meter PR clocking a 1:01.18.  Shannon Granelli raced to a PR 1:17.74 in the 400 meter hurdles.   Maria Marucci(88-1) and Rachel Caruso(87-11) just missed making the finals for the javelin.  On the Boys side, day one results saw all three 1600 meter runners turn in their fastest times of the season.  Anish Kumar clocked a 4:53.69, while senior Vinny Marinaro turned in a 4:56.81, and Tyler Chang ran a PR 5:02.87. The 4 x 800 relay team of Sean Bernardo, Aiden Hamlin, Tom McIntyre, and Luca Vespa ran a 9:06.06.  Zach Mackiewicz just missed the discus finals after whirling the platter out to 119-0.

Day two opened up with Zach Mackiewicz making the shot put finals with a put of 44-1.5.  He finished in 8th place out fo the scoring. In the 200 meters, Anna Contini scored in her second race of the meet by racing to a PR 26.61 and grabbing 5th.  Ava Tucker also turned in a PR with a 28.26.  In the 800 meters, Morgan Defluri ran a 2:46.03 which was her PR.  The day closed with the Girls 4 x 400 relay team racing their way to a silver medal and a birth in the Group Three Championships.  Kate Contini led off the relay with a 60.2, Mia Geraghty carried the stick over leg two in a 62.1, Ava Tucker ran a 61.1 and Anna Contini anchored in 59.7.  Their 4:03.58 makes them the 4th seed in the Group Three Meet.

The action starts this weekend bright and early at Central Regional High School in the scenic Bayville, NJ.  Friday’s events start at 2:30 and Saturday begins at 10:00.
