Boys Varsity Cross Country, Girls Varsity Cross Country · Miruelo, Freshman Girls Race to Medals at Prestigious Shore Coaches Invite

Junior Tiffany Miruelo continued her eye-opening first season as a Raider harrier by grabbing another medal in an elite invitational.  She raced to a 21st place finish at the Shore Coaches Cross Country Invitational in a race that featured three teams ranked in the top ten if the state.  The Freshman Girls team, led by Shayla Ismael,  also earned medals by placing 3rd as a team in the Freshman B Race.  On the Boys side, the Raiders were paced by junior Sean Bernardo who raced to a personal best on the challenging Holmdel course clocking a 18:31.

The first race of the day for the Raiders was the Freshman Girls race. The Raiders were paced by Shayla Ismael(17:24).  Adrianna Quinn(18:02) and Stef Ugliarolo(18:07) were next for the Raiders.  Rounding out the scorers for the Raiders were Lily Kremer(18:43), Kendra Hergenhan(20:27), Reilley Granelli(22:55) and Peggy Zhu(22:58).  The Raiders won the 3rd place medals by scoring 65 points as a team.  They finished behind Mountain Lakes and St. Dominic Academy.

In the Girls JV race, the Raiders were paced by Maddy Seckler who turned in a 26:05.  Shannon Granelli was right behind her in 26:07.  Sophia Aivazis(27:19), Skylar Demikoff(27:46) and Kayla D’Auria(28:07) rounded out the top five.  Meghan Macaluso(28:33), Nicole Kane(29:29), Alex Wasko(29:29) and Elaine Dong(35:49) raced for the Raiders,

In the Girls Varsity race, junior Tiffany Miruelo conquered the Holmdel course in a time of 21:12. Junior Ava Tucker(23:42), freshman Erica Spina(24:13), senior Gianna Marinaro(24:15), freshman Sarah Gibney(24:52) and junior Morgan Defluri(24:56) rounded out the varsity scorers for the Raiders. As a team the Raiders finished 12th out of 22 teams in the race with 344 points and a 23:38 average.

In the Boys JV race, the Raiders were led by Dan Harrington, who recovered from an ankle issue to clock a 22:18.  Dante Fequiere was next for the Raiders in 23:12.  Alvin Briones(23:56) was 3rd and freshman Justice Rivera made his 5K debut turning in a 24:34 to finish 4th for the Raiders.

In the Varsity Boys race, the Raiders were again led by junior Sean Bernardo who raced to a course PR of 18:31.  Anish Kumar crossed next for the Raiders with a 19:18, which was a seasonal best for the junior and a huge 1:16 course PR.  Brian McCormack raced to a 19:27 for the 3rd spot in the Raider lineup. Tyler Chang(20:11), Luca Vespa(20:17) and Jimmy Bernardo(22:08) rounded out the scorers for the Raiders. As a team, the Raiders finished in 21st place out of 27 teams with a 19:32 average.

Next up for the Raiders will be the rescheduled SEC Championship race at Branch Brook Park.  The races start at 3:00, don’t be late.
