Boy's Cross Country · Boys XC Splits Race with MKA and Glen Ridge

Branch Brook Park, Newark, NJ— As the rain made its way throughout the Northeast this past weekend, Hurricane Delta finally cleared up to give the Nutley Boys Cross Country team the conditions they needed to compete today.  The fellas carried their momentum from last week’s great showing, with some impressive times against the Cougars of MKA and the Glen Ridge Ridgers.  The team worked hard over a long and wet holiday weekend and by having a few great practices which resulted in great times.

Determined Senior, Sean Bernardo (18:17) is looking to cap off a brilliant career as he continues to lead this program day in and day out.  Sean took home a 1st in the heat overall but his efforts alone couldn’t get the win against a tough MKA XC squad.  The boys did secure the win over Glen Ridge and overall felt they had a great day out there on the cloudy course.  Putting in back to back great efforts the last two weeks were Seniors Anish Kumar (20:29), Tyler Chang (20:30), Luca “I can outrun a ___“ Vespa (21:34) and Alvin “Big Al/Alan” Briones (23:45) who all had awesome days in the park. The four know that time is ticking away on their great careers, so they are not taking any race for granted the rest of the way.  Two underclassmen who continue to turn heads are Sophomore Justice “The Bolt” Rivera (21:17) and Freshman Phenom Ryan Budnick (20:31 PR).  Both keep cementing their status into the lineup as they helped the team in a huge way yet again.

The final four giving tremendous individual efforts today were Juniors Jimmy “Sweet Feet” Bernardo (23:05), Angel Zapata (24:10), Alexavian Leon (25:18) and freshman Christian Estrella (27:23).  The guys look to continue trucking along and making this unique season one they can hold their head high to, come mid November.  Stay tuned tomorrow for the ladies of Nutley XC as they head to Branch Brook to continue their surge on the young season!  Coach R signing off!
