Nutley Columbia Ice Hockey gave Cranford its first loss of the season with a score of 3-2, in a league matchup on Monday, January 6th at Warinanco Ice Skating Center. Nutley goaltender Johnny Matrona turned away 26 out of the 28 shots he faced, while the co-op posted 47 shots of their own. Joe Melillo (unassisted) opened up the scoring for NC in the first period, and was followed up by Frankie Matrona’s powerplay goal (assisted by Melillo and Cooper Fojas) in the second period. Rocco Albanese (unassisted) added the team’s 3rd goal of the night, which ended up being the game winner as Nutley Columbia held off an ongoing attack late in the third period. NC Hockey’s next game will be on Saturday, January 11th against Millburn at Codey Arena at 3:45pm.
